Jonathan Chu
Rising MS-II at the Medical University of South Carolina
Undergraduate: Duke University
I am a rising second year at MUSC. I graduated from Duke University class of 2011 with a major in Classical Studies Civilizations and minors in Chemistry and Biology. I am a Navy ensign with their Health Professions Scholarship Program. I plan to serve as a Navy doctor and hopefully connect with some Navy Special Warfare units along the way as a Dive Medical Officer.
This internship was a new experience for me. The most appealing part, by far, has been the opportunity to enter an environment completely unfamiliar to me. During this project, we were faced with a sink or swim mentality. The project is what you make of it, and my intention was to take full advantage. I have learned to take initiative, and I have gained the confidence to push through uncertainty. I consider these lessons the most important. However, I have also gained more exposure to the surgery room and improved my Spanish drastically. I am excited to see how future experiences incorporate the lessons I have learned in Bolivia.
